Rainbow cake with an edible print
When a specific image has to be reproduced – a favourite character, a photo, a drawing – an edible print is the most accurate solution.
The print is produced on a wafer or sugar sheet with food-grade ink. A photograph, a child’s drawing or a favourite motif can be reproduced exactly – far more accurately than by hand painting.
We pipe a cream rose border around the image and match the layers on the side of the cake to the colours of the print. In the example shown, the pink top and the rainbow side follow the colours of the butterfly: this build works well when the print itself has vivid colours.
What to know about the print
- Producing it takes days, so for this cake it is worth asking one and a half to two weeks ahead.
- The image should be high resolution. A pixelated picture saved from social media will be pixelated on the cake too.
- The print is slightly matt rather than glossy – that is the nature of the wafer sheet.
- We do not undertake the official depiction of trademarked cartoon characters. We can evoke a theme with colours, shapes and our own drawing, but we do not print licensed characters.
With your own photo, a child’s drawing, a company logo or custom artwork, however, we can do anything.
