Rainbow cake with marzipan figures
Coloured sponge layers under a smooth cream coating, topped with hand-shaped marzipan figures. Our biggest hit for children’s parties.
We do three things: custom cakes to order, daily pastries for the display, and artisan ice cream in season. Below we walk you through all three, together with what you need to know when ordering.
This is the heart of the salon. A custom cake here is not an item picked from a catalogue but the result of a conversation. You tell us what it is for, who it is for, what that person likes and what the theme is – and we tell you what can be done, and where we would suggest a different approach.
The more complex the design, the more time it needs. The table below shows how far ahead it is worth contacting us – but do always ask, because in high season we fill up faster.
| What you would like | How far ahead to ask | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Pastry slices, a larger tray | 2–3 days | From the display selection |
| A simple cream or fruit cake | 4–5 days | Without lettering |
| Cake with lettering and piped cream | 1 week | With chocolate lettering |
| Cake with an edible print or figures | 1.5–2 weeks | Producing the print takes time |
| Tiered or rainbow cake | 2 weeks | More sponge layers, longer chilling |
| Wedding cake | 1–2 months | With a tasting and a consultation |
| Peak season (Christmas, May, September) | Add 1 week | This is when orders peak |
It is better to give the number of guests than a diameter, because how a cake slices also depends on its shape. The same amount of sponge yields fewer slices in a round cake than in a rectangular one.
| Guests | What we suggest |
|---|---|
| 4–6 | A small round cake with a single decorated layer |
| 8–12 | A medium round cake – the most common choice |
| 15–20 | A large round or rectangular cake |
| 25–40 | Two separate cakes or a tiered solution |
| Over 40 | A tiered cake, or a cake together with a tray of slices |
What is in the display changes from day to day, because we work with seasonal fruit and bake only as much as sells that day. What is almost always there:
We also prepare larger trays to order – for graduations, company breakfasts and christenings. Two or three days is enough for that.
From spring to autumn. It is made in small batches, so the flavours change weekly: a few are constant – chocolate, vanilla, raspberry – and the rest depend on what fruit is available. Served in a cone, in a cup, or alongside a slice of cake.
Because a custom cake has no list price. The same size costs one thing with plain cream and another with figures, an edible print or an extra tier. A number on this page would either mislead you or be out of date. After you fill in the form or call us, we quote an actual price, not an indicative one.
Egg, gluten, dairy, soy and several kinds of nuts are all in use in the kitchen, so we cannot completely rule out cross-contamination. Always mention it when ordering: most cakes can be made gluten-free or lactose-free if we know in advance. In the case of a severe allergy, tell us exactly what the reaction is to, and we will tell you what we can and cannot guarantee.
Cakes made to order: character cakes for children, edible prints and marzipan figures, rainbow layer cakes, drip cakes for adult celebrations. The cakes shown here were made by us – each one existed only once, and yours will too.
Coloured sponge layers under a smooth cream coating, topped with hand-shaped marzipan figures. Our biggest hit for children’s parties.
When a specific image has to be reproduced – a favourite character, a photo, a drawing – an edible print is the most accurate solution.
A green piped-grass top, chocolate drip, marzipan machines and a name on the side. The classic boys’ party cake.
A turquoise and white painted cream coating, marzipan cars around the base and chocolate decorations on top. Colourful without being loud.
Pastel layers, a marzipan rainbow and lamb, with the child’s name. A gentler, photogenic option for a first birthday.
A coloured cream coating, chocolate bars and cream roses on top, with lettering piped in chocolate. For the bigger round-number birthdays.
Chocolate dripping over the rim, with cream roses, chocolate shards and golden spheres on top. A more elegant, grown-up option.
A classic whipped cream cake with sour cherries, a cocoa-dusted top and chocolate decorations. Without lettering, for simple occasions.
A dome-shaped cake with a densely piped caramelised top and a crisp crumb edge. For a smaller party, served whole.
The daily selection in the display: cream slices with seasonal fruit, chocolate and fruit cream items. A single slice can be eaten here, and we prepare larger trays to order with two or three days’ notice.
A light cream layer on a sponge base, topped with fruit jelly, whole blueberries and raspberries. One of the most popular items in the display.
A dark chocolate base under a silky mango cream. The most contrasting slice in our selection, and a favourite of our regulars.
A pink fruit cream on a red sponge base, with piped cream decoration and dried fruit shavings on top.
A tall sponge base, a light white cream, topped with apricot and blueberries. Our simplest and most requested item.
Classic items to take away with a morning coffee: choux buns and puff pastry slices with curd cheese and sour cherry. These are made fresh each day and sell out the same day.
A choux pastry bun filled with vanilla cream and dusted with icing sugar. Made fresh daily, and sold out the same day.
Puff pastry slices with two fillings: sweet curd cheese and sour cherry. Dusted with icing sugar, best while still warm.
Tell us the occasion and the date, and we will call you back to discuss it.
